What types of matters does the District Court of NSW deal with?

The District Court of NSW is the intermediate court in New South Wales.  It is a trial court and also has appellate jurisdiction.

Judges of the District Court of NSW also preside over tribunals.

In the Court’s criminal jurisdiction, the court deals with all criminal matters except for murder, treason and piracy.

In the Court’s civil jurisdiction, the court deals with claims involving a maximum amount of $750,000, although this limit may be exceeded if the parties consent.

The District Court deals with personal injury claims, matters related to the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and appeals from the Local Court and Children’s Court.
