The children of the late Ms O’Regan have settled a claim against Royal North Shore Hospital following the death of their mother following allegations of negligence in the treatment by the hospital of their mother.
The late Ms O’Regan committed suicide whilst admitted at the hospital when on a group walk. The group walk went beyond the secure perimeter of the hospital, where she was an involuntary patient under Mental Health Act.
Following her death, her husband brought proceedings against the hospital seeking damages for himself and for their children pursuant to the Compensation to Relatives Act 1897.
Liability remains in issue between the parties.
The Court has approved the settlement of more than $1 million dollars in damages for her 4 children.
